Mike-sell's is one of the only
potato chip manufacturers in the country to use peanut oil for frying potato chips.
Although this premium oil is more expensive than standard vegetable oil,
peanut oil is what gives Mike-sell's chips their unique taste and texture.
Every working day, more than 2500 gallons of oil are used to cook the over 100 tons
of potatoes that are brought into the plant for processing.
Each 100 pounds of whole potatoes yield around 25 pounds of potato chips.
In about 15 minutes those whole potatoes are turned into potato chips ready to be
shipped.
Mike-sell's production facilities, located in Dayton and Indianapolis, are some
of the cleanest and most modern food processing facilities you'll find anywhere.
From the computerized fryers to the optical scanners that in a fraction of a second
reject any potato chips with defects, each step along the process has quality controls
integrated right into the system.
In one final quality control step, each and every case of product goes through one
final quality inspection before leaving the plant.
